FA Cup chairman Wilson Arthur has criticized the government's commitment to sports, claiming it undervalues the importance of sports development.
On Thursday, March 27, the Parliament of Ghana approved the allocation of GHS 65,899,456 for the services of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the year ending 31 December 2025.
Speaking to Luv Sports, Wilson Arthur stressed the importance of a dedicated sports fund in Ghana to support the development of sports.
“It’s either the government has a plan B to raise funding, or they don’t value sports," he said.
“What Ghana sports need most is a sports fund; if we want to really develop sports, we need a sports fund. I am not saying the government should put money in it, but they can facilitate it."
Arthur also suggested that the government could generate revenue for the sports fund by investing in local players and providing adequate support for national teams.
“If I were the president, I would have one big ball every year, bring all the sports icons to one big dinner with people who support sports.
“There will be huge donations and that money will be raised into seed money for sports and through that we can pay Premier League, division one league and women professional players and take care of their national team players through that source, when you’re transferred abroad government will have a cut and that will come into the sports fund."
