The Lagos State government has stressed the importance of a safe Internet.

A statement by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology on Monday, marking the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Month, said the government would celebrate the month to highlight the growing importance of cybersecurity in the daily lives of individuals and businesses.

With the theme, “Secure Our World”, activities for the month-long event aim to spotlight cyber security best practices and rally everyone to combat cyber threats and stay safe online.

The statement, signed by the Commissioner, Tubosun Alake, reiterated the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to cyber security, adding that the government takes cybersecurity seriously.

The statement read, “From mobile to connected home devices, technology is deeply intertwined in our lives. Emerging technologies have many great benefits for society, but with those new technologies come new opportunities for bad actors to disrupt online activities at home, school, or work.

“The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology will be sharing important information, tips, and strategies to help individuals and businesses in Lagos protect their information assets against the ever-evolving threat via social media, TV, and radio interviews.”

The PUNCH reports that the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in Lagos last month that the state was planning to provide Internet access in public spaces.

Omotoso, at the book launch and Exaugural Lecture of a former Editor of The PUNCH, Adedayo Oketola, noted that this was part of the measures of the state in boosting connectivity and promoting ICT.
