Grace Van Patten, star of the Hulu drama series Tell Me Lies, has been recruited to headline another project for the streamer, a limited series about Amanda Knox. Van Patten will play Knox, succeeding Margaret Qualley who had been originally cast in the role but pulled out for scheduling reasons.

The untitled eight-episode series, from creator KJ Steinberg and 20th Television in association with The Littlefield Company and Monica Lewinsky’s Alt Ending Productions, covers Knox’s 16-year journey to set herself free after being wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher.

In the latest wrinkle in the case, an Italian court last week upheld Knox’s slander conviction, the last remaining conviction stemming from the case of Meredith Kercher’s 2007 murder.

Steinberg executive produces the limited series with Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson, & Graham Littlefield of The Littlefield Company; as well as Lewinsky, Knox and Chris Robinson of Knox Robinson Productions. Filming is staled to begin in October.

Van Patten will take on Knox after recently wrapping production on Season 2 of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, based on Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name. She has emerged as a go-to actor for Hulu — this marks her third consecutive show on the streamer following limited series Nine Perfect Strangers and Tell Me Lies. She is repped by WME and Brookside Artist Management.
