“We drank a lot. We were talking about our lives and our albums and got really excited about all of these stories. She was like, ‘We have to go home and listen to the songs,’” Gracie said about her night with Taylor. “She played me ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.’ I end up on the floor. That’s how that went and then we went home and wrote ‘Us’ based kind of off the conversation that we had at dinner.”

The fire was an oil fire that started from a candle.

“It’s an oil fire,” she said. “So, honestly, this is a really good PSA for anyone and everyone watching. If your candle explodes, if you put water on it, because I did this at my house with a much smaller candle … I poured a cup of water and it was like, the biggest flame. It’s so scary. Just don’t do it.”

"She's as extraordinary a friend and mentor as she is an artist and a writer."
