EXCLUSIVE: Greg Kinnear (Black Bird, Shining Vale) has been tapped as a series regular opposite Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Apple TV+’s new drama series from David E. Kelley and A24.
In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel, Fanning stars as Margo Millet, the child of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Pfeiffer), and an ex-pro wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman), who becomes pregnant after a brief affair with an English professor, Mark (Michael Angarano), at the local junior college she attends. Now, at 20, Margo is alone with an infant, unemployed, and on the verge of eviction. When her estranged father Jinx shows up on her doorstep and asks to move in with her, she agrees in exchange for help with childcare. Margo starts an OnlyFans as an experiment and soon finds herself adapting some of Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling.
Kinnear will play Kenny, Shyanne’s (Pfeiffer) religious boyfriend.
Other previously cast actors include Thaddea Graham as Margo’s roommate, Marcia Gay Harden as Mark’s mom and Nicole Kidman as Margo and Mark’s mediator.
Kelley serves as writer and showrunner on the eight-episode series. He and Matthew Tinker executive produce for David E. Kelley Productions alongside Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; and Kidman and Per Saari of Blossom Films. Pfeiffer, author Thorpe and Eva Anderson also executive produce.
Kinnear, an Oscar nominee for As Good As It Gets and Emmy nominee for The Kennedys and Modern Family, recently starred in the Starz series Shining Vale alongside Courtney Cox, and in Apple TV+’s limited series Black Bird, headlined by Taron Edgerton. He will next be seen in Black Bird creator Dennis Lehane’s new Apple + series, Smoke (aka Firebug), also starring Egerton. Kinnear is repped by CAA and Goodman Genow Schenkman Smelkinson, and Christopher.
