FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski and Atlético Madrid hero Antoine Griezmann could join MLS, according to former US star Taylor Twellman.

The former USMNT striker turned analyst expects big names to follow in the footsteps of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez by moving to the United States next summer. However, he does not expect to see them flock to Florida to join the South American duo at Inter Miami.

He told the Daily Mail: “ I’m intrigued like I’ve never been, because I think that in the summer of 2024, after the Euro, after the Copa América, I think you’re going to see names mentioned that a lot of people today would think are I completely lost my mind (saying that). And I’m not sure I’ll still be there on July 15th. Let’s say (Robert) Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann come to Major League Soccer this summer. They won’t come to Miami. What is Atlanta doing? If Atlanta transfers Thiago Almada for more than 25 million euros, you know they are not going to sit idly by and bring in someone else. »

Griezmann expected in MLS

And to add: “ There are some very big owners in this league. I think they are all testing the waters looking forward to this summer. And this is where I think the playing field could absolutely be more level than it is (today).

Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have already followed their former Barcelona teammate Messi to Florida. The American league hopes to recruit other big European names in the coming years to strengthen its reputation around the world. The 2024 MLS season is set to kick off with Messi facing Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake. A few days after their opening match, the Floridians will travel to California to face the LA Galaxy.
