Atlético Madrid have struggled in recent weeks, and there is no doubt that these problems are linked to the twisted ankle that Antoine Griezmann suffered in Milan.
The French striker will also not be back for the trip to Cádiz this weekend, where the team lost last season. Griezmann returned to training with the squad on Friday, and reports earlier in the week indicated he would be back for the clashes against Inter and Barcelona, the next two meetings.
It was thought he could also play a role at the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium, but coach Diego Simeone dismissed that idea in his pre-match press conference.
Delayed return for Griezmann
“He won’t be available tomorrow, we don’t know if he will arrive for the game against Inter and if he doesn’t return in time he will probably be against Barcelona“. Simeone also described Jose Maria Gimenez as “absolutely vital” to media outlet Relevo, but believes he will be absent for next week’s clashes, which could define Atletico’s season.
The Rojiblancos will need to secure a top-four finish, but for their season to be considered successful, qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals appears to be the only real way to do that.
