Griezmann’s indignation!

The goal denied to Atletico Madrid during the clash against Real Madrid goes down badly in the ranks of the Colchoneros.

Atletico Madrid preserved the essentials on Sunday evening. Traveling to Real Madrid, the Colchoneros snatched a draw (1-1) in the final minutes of the match. Led from the 21e minute following a goal from Brahim Diaz (21e), Diego Simeone’s players equalized in added time thanks to a header from Marcos Llorente (90e+3).

Atletico Madrid thought they had fallen behind upon returning from the locker room when Stefan Savic victoriously headed a corner kicked by Antoine Griezmann. But that was without counting on the intervention of the VAR. After viewing the video images, the referee of the match actually refused the Montenegrin defender’s goal for an offside position by Saul Niguez, who was lurking just in front of the Real goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin.

A rejected goal which did not pass to the Colchoneros. As evidenced by the message published on X, formerly Twitter, by Antoine Griezmann immediately after the match. The world champion actually posted two laughing emojis, which left little doubt about his feelings about this decision.

Incomprehension among the Colchoneros

Some of his teammates were even more explicit in front of the media. “I don’t think anyone knew what was happening, even the referee didn’t know exactly what was happening, regretted Jan Oblak. He called a player offside in front of the goalkeeper but I think even Lunin didn’t protest because the ball was too far away and it was impossible for him to react. As a goalkeeper, I hope this kind of action would be whistled from the other side too. If someone is in front of the goalkeeper, they say it bothers you but there are times when they clearly don’t bother you. They don’t whistle all the time. »

“We don’t know the rules well either so… I don’t know what to think anymore,” regretted Marcos Llorente while Diego Simeone, the coach of the Colchoneros, said “not understanding the referee’s decision.”
