Atlético de Madrid host Real Betis in La Liga this weekend and their favorite player, Antoine Griezmann, is still injured.

Diego Simeone remains cautious about Griezmann’s return to the squad, with the France international recovering from a moderate ankle sprain.

The injury occurred in the final moments of Atletico’s Champions League round of 16 match which they lost 1-0 to Inter Milan on February 20.

Simeone doesn’t take risks

According to initial estimates, Griezmann’s recovery period is “a few weeks” and he remains within that time frame before the return match in Madrid on March 13. Atlético will be hoping to win the race to finish in the top four of La Liga this season and qualify for the Champions League in 2024/25.

The Inter clash is the main concern for Simeone and Griezmann, who Diario AS understands did not take part in Atletico’s final training session of the week. Simeone is unlikely to risk playing the 32-year-old in Cadiz on March 9 in order to keep him fresh for Inter’s visit.
