New top scorer in the history of Atlético Madrid, Antoine Griezmann will receive a superb tribute from the Colchoneros.

Scorer in Atlético Madrid’s defeat in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup last Wednesday against Real Madrid (5-3), Antoine Griezmann became the top scorer in the history of the Civitas Metropolitano team. With 174 goals scored in 355 appearances in the red and white colors, the vice-captain of the Blues has overtaken Luis Aragonés (173 goals).

To pay tribute to its French striker, Atlético has decided to release a special jersey, of which 174 copies will be sold. “Goleador de Leyenda Antoine Griezmann” will thus be registered at the level of the torso. “Grizi” and his teammates will wear this special jersey during the Valencia reception on January 28.

“I was close to crying”

After beating Luis Aragonés’ record, the 2018 world champion experienced being overcome by emotion. “There are several emotions between the sadness of having lost and the pride and joy of having broken this record, he confided on the Madrid club’s YouTube channel. At half-time, there was a lot of emotion, I was close to crying but we had to get back to the match. It’s a shame because we conceded a lot of goals, like in Girona the other day (4-3 defeat, January 3, editor’s note). »
