The 2022 MLS Cup champions are looking to pair Griezmann with his former France teammates Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud
LAFC are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Antoine Griezmann, reinforcing long-standing interest in the playmaker, according to GiveMeSport. His contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The 33-year-old reportedly has a release clause that can be activated this summer for €10 million. Atletico Madrid have been active in their search for a striker this summer and are reportedly close to completing a deal for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.
Griezmann in MLS
Griezmann has scored 268 goals and added 119 assists in a nearly 15-year professional career. LAFC are just two points off the top of the Western Conference and six points off the Supporters Shield trophy.
Griezmann has long been interested in a move to MLS. The Frenchman admitted last year that he wanted to play in America:
Saudi Arabia? I understand those who have to go there, we are talking about incredible sums of money,” said Griezmann.
Could I go? I have a family, three children. It’s not an easy decision to make. MLS remains my priority.”
Griezmann could join a strong French contingent at LAFC. The Californians signed former France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in December 2023. Lloris has made 24 starts for the Los Angeles club, making 64 saves with a save percentage of 68.1. Olivier Giroud signed with LAFC in early May and has yet to make his debut for the club.
