A group, Mandate4.org, has unveiled a new advocacy resource hub aimed at driving electoral reforms within the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by the Founder of Mandate4.org, Century Favour, it noted that the advocacy hub aims to address long-standing flaws in Nigeria’s electoral system and equip citizens, activists, legislators, and political movements with the tools needed to demand change.
Favour warned that without credible elections, bad leaders will continue to stay in power, leading to rising unemployment, economic hardship, poor infrastructure, weak democratic institutions, and a lack of accountability.
“The state of our elections determines the state of our leadership. The state of our leadership determines the state of our nation. Fixing INEC is not just about elections, it’s about the future of Nigeria,” Favour added.
The newly unveiled advocacy hub provides access to critical information and resources that empower Nigerians to demand key electoral reforms.
These include the full implementation of recommendations from the FixINEC FixNigeria and Justice Uwais reports, greater transparency in election processes, increased independence for INEC, and stricter enforcement of electoral laws to prevent fraud and malpractice.
In urging Nigerians to take an active role in the fight for electoral reforms, he said the advocacy hub provides several ways for individuals, activists, political movements, and legislators to participate in the campaign:
He added that as a citizen, they can, “sign petitions demanding reforms, demand that lawmakers and INEC implement critical reforms, download and read the #FixINEC #FixNigeria report, engage their elected representatives, spread awareness using #FixINEC #FixNigeria on social media, and participate in town halls, rallies, and online discussions.
“Organisations are encouraged to create petitions, engage their members in advocacy, access customizable resources, and host town hall meetings, rallies, and online discussions to push for electoral reforms.
“Lawmakers are urged to download the #FixINEC #FixNigeria report, draft bills for INEC reforms, lobby other legislators, and attend general assemblies to advocate for changes to the electoral system.”
He added that with the 2027 general elections approaching, failure to reform INEC could result in another cycle of weak leadership and poor governance.
The organisation called on Nigerians to unite in the fight for electoral integrity.
“We have a choice: continue to suffer the consequences of weak electoral integrity or stand together to demand reforms that work for us,” Favour added.
