Pep Guardiola believes his Manchester City side are “in trouble” after their injury problems worsened during the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season on Wednesday night with a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. Despite several changes to their line-up, the visitors lost two key players to injury – Manuel Akanji withdrew from the starting XI in the warm-up, while Savinho was stretchered off with an ankle problem in the second half-time.

City are already without several star players due to injuries, with Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker among those still on the treatment table. Erling Haaland was an unused substitute in Wednesday’s defeat, with Guardiola fearful of losing the Norwegian striker.

Pep very worried

Guardiola said in his post-match press conference: “We are 13 players, so it’s really difficult. I think we’re in trouble, because in nine years we’ve never had a situation with many, many injuries. In these situations, the players take a step forward, they are more together than ever. They will try to do more this week with a little recovery time.”

City have three away games remaining before the November international break. They travel to Bournemouth on Saturday before traveling to Lisbon to face Sporting CP in the Champions League three days later, and finishing this part of the season with a trip to Brighton.
