Gunther respects that Timothy Thatcher does what makes him happy. However, he believes that he could be on a bigger stage.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Gunther recalled working with Timothy Thatcher. He then said that he thought the former NXT star would be on a bigger stage if he took a different approach to wrestling.
“I learned a lot from Tim,” Gunther said. “He was very influential on me. He made me a better professional wrestler.
“I think Tim would be on a bigger stage right now if he would divert away from some of his core values and accept professional wrestling for what it is on the big stage,” said Gunther. “As much as I enjoyed that gritty, catch-as-catch can shoot-style wrestling with no smoke and mirrors, the reality is that it isn’t going to draw the attention of a lot and lot of people in 2024. At the end of the day, what we do is a business. But I respect that he does what makes him happy. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, then that’s pretty useless.”
Barrasso noted that Thatcher has wrestled in various places in recent weeks, ranging from Tokyo to Toronto.
Gunther also noted that you never knew what was going to happen, especially in the wrestling business.
Timothy Thatcher On Being Of The Grid
In addition to focusing on his work outside of the spotlight, Timothy Thatcher also prefers to live off the grid outside of the ring. Speaking with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, he discussed his mindset.
“A man I once knew always used to make the joke as, ‘If you want to book Tim Thatcher, you send this man a fax, and in two to three business days, he’ll get back to you,'” he said. “Or the carrier pigeon, you got to throw it out and hope it lands somewhere around Sacramento. All this stuff… Yeah, I’ve had success in spite of my own decisions. Which is… I’m very grateful that it’s worked out that way.”
“But I did it for… I do it this way for my own sanity. And thankfully, I’ve built enough of a reputation that… I started wrestling before all this stuff was important. So at least I built up enough of a reputation and stuff before all of the social media became that… It… If people want me to work for them, then they find a way. Which I am very grateful for. It’s a wonderful editing process too. Because then I only work for companies that I want to work for.”
Timothy Thatcher also said that if people really wanted him to work for them, they would find him.
