Even as his record-setting WWE Intercontinental Championship reign continues, Gunther has his sights set on the world title. If he adds another to title to his collection, the powerhouse is not sure how he would handle the situation.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet at the media event ahead of WWE Royal Rumble, Gunther was asked whether fans could potentially see him hold both the Intercontinental Championship and the world title.
“I think we can, yes,” Gunther said. “But now I go forward with that, I don’t know. I haven’t thought about that. I don’t think the Intercontinental Championship deserves to be a side project of somebody. So we’ll see when it’s time.
When asked, Gunther stated that he would not trade the Intercontinental Championship in order to earn a world title shot, as he would want to earn it. “The Ring General” was then asked what winning the Royal Rumble match would mean to him.
“Oh, great,” Gunther said. “It would be validation. Especially for last year. Started one, stayed in there all the time, and Cody Rhodes walks out at 30, fresh from rehab. It’s just what it is. It’s the Rumble, but I want to win it this year.”
