Once again a scorer, Tuesday, against Red Star Belgrade, Erling Haaland is within Lionel Messi’s time in the Champions League.
Forced into a draw by Newcastle (1-1) on Saturday, Manchester City did not hang around to return to victory. Traveling to Red Star Belgrade, the English champions didn’t even seem to force themselves to win 4-0.
And Erling Haaland, who remained silent this weekend, obviously did not miss the opportunity to score. The Norwegian striker scored his team’s third goal on the hour mark, scoring 42e goal in the Champions League.
With now 42 goals in 41 matches in C1, Erling Haaland displays impressive efficiency. And a precocity to match. If he is currently the third most prolific scorer before the age of 25, the Norwegian should quickly overtake Kylian Mbappé, who had 43 goals before his 25e birthday.
Lionel Messi is further behind with 51 goals but the former Borussia Dortmund player has the entire season to score the nine goals that separate him from the eight-time Ballon d’Or.
