Haaland, the secret clause revealed

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is one of the most lethal strikers in the world and certainly has no rivals in the Premier League at the moment.

He looks set to commit there, but he won’t close the door on a move to Real Madrid right away. Los Blancos have a long-standing admiration for Haaland and tried to sign him before the summer he left Borussia Dortmund, an admiration that is mutual.

Agent Rafael Pimienta and father Alf-Inge Haaland have always spoken about Haaland having the freedom to choose his future, and that will remain the case to some extent.

A Merengue clause in Haaland’s contract

The Norwegian striker, who is currently under contract until 2027, is closing in on a new contract renewal with City, but Marca say it will include a release clause that is within reach of Real Madrid. The arrival of Kylian Mbappe means Los Blancos don’t really need to make a move for Haaland, but if he does come back into their agenda then Pimienta and Haaland Sr. want to have the ability to make that happen.

The attitude in Madrid is that sooner or later Haaland will end up joining Real. Whether that is the case or not is anyone’s guess, but reports from the Spanish capital have always exuded confidence, and the evasive answers from Pimienta and Haaland’s father play into that. Pimienta has also been spotted in the president’s box at the Santiago Bernabeu on several occasions in recent years.
