Halsey is this week’s guest on Alex Cooper‘s Call Her Daddy podcast. We were looking forward to all the tea on her relationship with newly minted fiancé Avan Jogia… but unfortunately, the interview was FAR from being all fun and games.
The 30-year-old singer, who goes by she/they pronouns, explained that she had one of the most “demoralizing” moments of her entire career a few years back when a “really powerful” (and unnamed) music executive snooped through her phone, found nude pictures of the singer on there. Disgustingly? He may have even sent them to himself!! What?!?!

Cooper was discussing the sexual power dynamics inherent in the entertainment industry at the time, as well as the unsettling situations that can arise from them, when Halsey revealed the gut-wrenching story:
“I had a really strange situation a couple years ago. I mean, I guess it was quite a long time ago, but I was out and I was with this executive, like this really powerful executive who works in music in some capacity.”
At the time, the Great Impersonator singer was “hanging out” as well as “working” with the exec. They went out one night, and were accompanied by two “older” male managers. Being in a group setting, the recording artist didn’t have their guard up, feeling “like everything was really fine.” She recalled:
“It was very just celebratory and there was a lot of industry talk. I didn’t feel weird about it at all. I never felt unsafe or anything.”
At some point during the night out, the exec asked Halsey for a selfie that he could send to his niece. Again, no danger warning, right? They took her phone out and snapped some shots. But instead of texting the pics directly to him, the singer felt the call of nature. What happened next would change their life forever:
“I took a selfie of the two of us and I handed him my phone and I was like, ‘Text it to yourself. I have to pee.’ And then I went to the bathroom and when I came back, he handed me my phone like this.”
At that point, per the video feed of the podcast, Halsey pantomimed as though putting an imaginary phone face down in front of her. They recalled how it became clear what had happened upon looking at their actual phone screen:
“And I saw he was going through my nudes on my phone.”
OMG!!!
Understandably rocked to her core by the violation, she recalled thinking:
“I didn’t even know what to do. I was just frozen. I was like, ‘Did I just imagine that? Was that an accident? Did the phone scroll up? What the heck just happened?’And then I was like, ‘Did he text them to himself and then delete the messages? I don’t even know where these are now.'”
That is SO f**king scary! And so invasive! Seriously, what the f**k?!?!?!
Even worse than the (very bad) violation of the music exec having access to the nudes, tho, Halsey recalled how the feeling that quickly grew in the pit of her stomach was the most unsettling part:
“I’m in this situation where I have so much power. I have a bodyguard and I have, you know, all the leverage in the world and I’m in this exclusive space in this VIP, I’ve reached the ranks of like, ‘Oh, I am protected or whatever else it may be.’ And then this invasive thing just happens on a whim.”
Noting how it made her feel like she’d “regressed” to the darker days of her pre-fame past, the singer continued:
“I went from being like, ‘Yeah, I’m like f**king hot s**t and I’m one of the big players,’ and then I sat down. And when that happened, in that moment, I was like, ‘You’re nothing. You’re nothing. You’ll always be nothing. You’re still just that f**king girl who’s getting taken advantage of, or like men are talking about you behind your back, or you’re some sort of like, collateral.’ I was like, ‘You’re nothing.’ It was so demoralizing.”
Ugh.
And in perhaps the most heartbreaking statement of them all, Halsey concluded:
“So many worse things have happened to me than that, but that one stuck out for some reason because it was so nonchalant.”
Jeez…

Wow. Woooooooow. We honestly don’t know how the f**k we would react to something like that if it had happened to us. Such a terrible situation. Sending love and good thoughts to Halsey right now and always!
