SEATTLE — After earning two massive wins in a row, the Reign capped off a busy summer transfer window with the acquisition of Swedish international defender Hanna Glas from the Kansas City Current. With sights set on the playoffs, the recent results and the addition of Glas have Seattle’s chances looking better than ever.

To acquire the defender, who is only under contract through the end of the 2024 season, Seattle sent $10,000 in intra-league transfer funds to Kansas City, plus an additional $10,000 in intra-league transfer funds if certain performance-based incentives are achieved.

Glas initially signed with Kansas City before the 2023 season but spent the year recovering from an ACL injury. The defender was elevated from the season-ending injury list this July and played two matches for the Current. In her debut during the Summer Cup, she quickly connected with Debinha to earn her first assist though it did not count toward regular-season numbers.

Prior to the NWSL, Glas starred in Europe with Bayern Munich from 2020-22 and Paris Saint-Germain the two seasons prior. The defender even recorded an assist and scored the game-winning goal for Bayern during the first leg of their 2021 UEFA Champions League semifinal.

Internationally, the new signing boasts a wealth of experience, having earned her first senior team cap in 2017 she helped Sweden finish third at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and with a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

“Hanna’s been someone that I’ve tracked for a long time,” head coach Laura Harvey told The Equalizer before practice on Tuesday. “I think her international pedigree speaks for itself. Obviously, been unlucky with injury. And then I know this year she’s been healthy and fully fit, and just been unlucky with the two people that have been in really good form for Kansas.”
