Hannibal Mejbri has revealed his Manchester United team-mates endorsed his move to Sevilla after experiencing the ‘crazy’ atmosphere their fans generated in the Europa League last season.

The 20-year-old midfielder rose through United’s youth teams after signing from Monaco back in 2019 and has made 13 appearances for the first-team in all competitions, including two Premier League starts.

With Erik ten Hag unable to guarantee regular minutes, the Tunisia international made it clear he was keen to secure a temporary switch away from Old Trafford, with Everton, Freiburg, PSV Eindhoven and Villarreal all registering an interest this month.

However, Hannibal pushed to join Sevilla – the reigning Europa League champions – as the club made their interest known and the youngster is raring to get started with the La Liga outfit.

After being unveiled earlier this week, Hannibal lifted the lid on exactly what his United team-mates told him about the fanbase in Seville – with the two clubs clashing in the Europa League quarter-finals last season.

In the sides’ first meeting, Sevilla held United to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford before a Youssef En-Nesyri-inspired second leg victory dumped the Red Devils out of the competition.

‘I wasn’t involved, but I watched the games and I could see the quality in the club,’ Hannibal said.

‘I could see the fans. When they played at Sevilla, it was crazy. Just before I joined here, the players at United told me about the fans.

‘They told me the atmosphere was really crazy. It’s always nice to play for a team who have good and crazy fans because it helps you when you are in difficult moments.

‘I’ve heard a lot about them so yeah I can’t wait to see them, play for them and hopefully they can like me as much as I like them.”

Hannibal is in line to make his Sevilla debut away to Girona in La Liga this weekend and the midfielder is ready to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

‘It’s going to be really nice because we’re playing against a strong team,’ he added.

‘Hopefully, I can make my debut and it will be a good present and even better if we win and come back with the three points.’
