Last night did not go according to plans for Barcelona as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against AS Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy clash.

Even though it was an unofficial encounter, Hansi Flick & co. will be disappointed by how things went considering that it was the team’s first home game with the German tactician in charge.

With a game against Valencia up next in the first match of the 2024/25 La Liga later this weekend, the Blaugrana have their work cut out to address some issues both on and off the pitch.

Flick asks for Martinez’s registration

One of the major concerns for Barcelona before the season-opener against Valencia is the registration of their players with La Liga.

While they did register three stars – Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet, and Ansu Fati this week, Mundo Deportivo reports that manager Hansi Flick has requested the club to take care of the registration of another player. The footballer in question is Inigo Martinez.

Martinez joined Barcelona last year and signed a two-year contract but was only registered for a single season due to FFP issues. As such, he is currently unregistered heading into the new campaign.

As per the report, Flick is very happy and satisfied with the performances of the Spanish veteran and wants him to be available for the first game of the 2024/25 term.

Martinez was the only defender to play the entire 90 minutes for Barcelona against Monaco last night. He has been at Flick’s disposal from the start of the pre-season and has seemingly earned his trust.

It is now up to Barcelona to decide who they register first, with new signing Dani Olmo also waiting in line.
