Barcelona’s Brazilian forward Raphinha has emerged as a completely transformed player this season, showing a level of performance and consistency that has already surpassed his entire scoring tally from last season.

In just 15 matches, Raphinha has scored 11 goals and provided nine assists, eclipsing last season’s tally of 10 goals, which took him 37 appearances to achieve.

This remarkable improvement has positioned him as one of Barcelona’s most reliable and impactful players under the guidance of new manager Hansi Flick.

Returned the favour

Initially deployed as an attacking midfielder earlier in the season, Raphinha adapted quickly to Flick’s tactics, thriving in a flexible role where he often shifts positions.

Whether playing centrally or from the wing, he has shown the ability to deliver consistently, turning into a vital attacking force for Barcelona.

This versatile approach has allowed him to not only rack up goals but also increase his overall contribution to the team’s gameplay, adding assists and playmaking to his skill set.

For a player once rumoured to be on his way out in the summer transfer window, Raphinha’s turnaround has been exceptional.

Performance in numbers

He currently boasts an impressive average of one goal every 142 minutes in a league match, a substantial improvement over last season’s struggles. To put his form into perspective, he managed only six league goals in 28 matches last season.

This season, however, he has already netted seven goals in just 12 league games, with an additional four in three Champions League appearances, including a memorable hat-trick in a dominant 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich.

Raphinha’s rise has also come with increased leadership responsibilities, as he is now one of Barcelona’s captains. This role has only strengthened his commitment to the team, transforming him into an indispensable figure.

No longer seen as a potential transfer candidate, Raphinha has become unassailable within the squad, his presence and performances proving essential to Barcelona’s success.
