Hansi Flick has already decided on Barcelona’s starting XI against Monaco – report

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is gearing up for his Champions League debut with a carefully crafted lineup for Thursday’s match against AS Monaco. 

According to a report by Jordi Gil in SPORT, Flick has already settled on his starting XI, although recent developments have forced him to make a crucial adjustment.

Dani Olmo’s injury has presented a challenge, as Flick will need to tweak his initial plans. While Olmo’s absence is a setback, it appears that Ferran Torres will step into the spotlight as his replacement. 

Torres, known for his flexibility and impressive record in high-stakes matches, will be key in Barcelona’s attack.

Barcelona’s attack

Flick’s strategy involves a reshuffle of his attacking players. Raphinha will be positioned behind Robert Lewandowski, who is currently the top scorer among active Champions League players.

Lewandowski, with his remarkable scoring ability, will continue as the central striker. On the left flank, Torres will take up his role, while Lamine Yamal will remain stationed on the right wing.

Torres’ inclusion in the lineup is expected to add significant value. His adaptability and past performances in international competitions demonstrate his proficiency in crucial games. This versatility makes him an invaluable asset for Flick’s tactical plans.

What about the rest?

In the midfield, Pedri and Marc Casado are anticipated to retain their positions. Their stability and skill are likely to be crucial in controlling the game and providing support to the attack. 

The defensive lineup will consist of Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, and Alejandro Balde. This combination brings a blend of experience and youthful energy, ensuring a robust defensive setup.

Additionally, Flick is likely to keep Eric Garcia on standby. Garcia’s ability to function both as a defender and a defensive midfielder offers him added tactical options. 

His presence provides flexibility and depth to the squad, allowing for adjustments based on the flow of the game.

In goal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen will continue his role as the team’s primary goalkeeper. His consistent performances and reliability make him a cornerstone of Barcelona’s defensive strategy.
