Pau Victor became the first and so far the only signing for FC Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window when he joined from Girona.

Having spent the last season on loan at Barça Atletic, the 22-year-old was brought in permanently, this time as a first-team player.

Even though he has at the club for a short time, it appears that Victor has already caught the eye of new manager Hansi Flick and his coaching staff.

Pau Victor – Lewandowski’s backup?

In fact, Mundo Deportivo reports that there is already talk of Pau Victor being the backup striker to Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona for the upcoming season.

Flick’s technical staff have spotted in Pau Victor a talented striker capable of occupying different offensive positions. The 22-year-old showed his quality in the friendly against Manchester City, scoring a goal and putting on a MotM display.

Flick believes he has a place in the squad and in the dressing room, to the extent that he is already being talked about as a possible replacement for Lewandowski during matches.

Elated after memorable debut

Speaking after his goalscoring display against Manchester City, Victor, who has signed a contract until 2029, could not contain his joy.

“I’m very happy, it’s a day I’ll remember all my life. I hope to continue like this and help the team in whatever way I can,” he said.

Expressing his desire to stay put at Barcelona next season, he added: “I hope it will be an exciting season, I’m very motivated, I want to show that I can be here, hopefully, I can stay and score many more goals.”

Now, as things stand, Pau Victor appears to be ahead of Vitor Roque in Flick’s pecking order, with the latter even likely to be sold this summer.
