Journalist Florian Plettenberg has clarified that there are many incorrect reports about Hansi Flick’s salary at FC Barcelona.
According to the journalist, Flick’s annual salary at Barcelona is between €9 million and €11 million gross, with additional potential bonuses.
In addition to discussing Flick’s salary, Plettenberg also mentioned that Barcelona are currently negotiating with Heiko Westermann, a former central defender for Real Betis.
He revealed that Flick wants Westermann on his coaching team because of his vast experience, proficiency in Spanish, and strong reputation in Germany.
Debunking the rumours
The topic of Flick’s salary at Barcelona has been widely discussed, even before the team officially announced his hiring.
This interest is partly due to the financial challenges Barcelona face and the compensation they had to pay to Xavi for his early departure, which was around €3 million.
Given these financial constraints, understanding the details of Flick’s salary has been particularly intriguing.

However, this figure would be supplemented by significant bonuses, including €1 million for winning the Champions League and €750,000 for winning La Liga.
To put things in perspective, it was €300k and €150k respectively for Xavi.
Flick has joined with two assistants
Considering Barcelona’s need to manage their finances carefully, Flick has joined the club with only two assistants, Toni Tapalovic and Marcus Sorg.
There is, however, an option to bring in a third assistant to help Flick adapt to Spanish football. The leading candidate for this role is Westermann.
To summarise, Plettenberg has debunked many of the incorrect reports about Flick’s salary, confirming that it is around €9-11 million gross annually, plus potential bonuses.
In addition, Barcelona is in talks with Westermann to join Flick’s coaching team due to his experience, language skills, and good reputation.
This context is important given the financial constraints Barcelona face and the interest surrounding Flick’s hiring and salary package.
