Thiago’s addition to Hansi Flick’s team at Barcelona has added a great deal of experience and expertise to the club’s coaching setup.
Renowned for his tactical knowledge and versatility, Thiago was regarded as one of Spain’s finest midfielders during his peak and he could bring those qualities to Barcelona, albeit in the role of a coach.
Hansi Flick wants Thiago to mentor Pedri, Gavi
According to Alex Pintanel, Thiago’s first order of business at Barcelona will be to closely guide two of the club’s finest midfield talents in the form of Pedri and Gavi.
At least that is what Hansi Flick expects from the retired midfielder, who is also a product of the famed La Masia youth team.
Flick believes Thiago’s vast tactical knowledge of football can help sharpen both Pedri and Gavi in the years to come.

Both are considered to be valuable pieces of Barcelona’s project going forward and Flick is clearly about revolving the midfield around them in the future.
The German sees Pedri as a decisive player with exceptional vision and ability to hold on to the ball while he regards Gavi as a complete footballer, and intends to build the midfield around the pair.
Pedri & Gavi’s main hurdle
However, keeping the recent trends in mind, Pedri and Gavi may require more physical guidance than tactical, as both midfielders have struggled with injuries in the recent past.
Pedri’s injury woes in the past few years have been well-documented. His struggles deepened in the summer when the midfielder picked up another injury in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.
On a bright note, however, Pedri’s recovery process has been quite smooth so far and the midfielder is hopeful of returning to the pitch sometime in mid-August.
Gavi, meanwhile, has been ruled out for quite some time owing to an ACL injury. Barcelona, though, are hopeful of having him back in the action within the next couple of months.
