The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Impact House (Youth Province 9) Iworoko, Ado Ekiti has organised an initiative tagged ‘shop for free” to distribute food items and provisions for the indigent, particularly students.

The church stated that no fewer than 1000 beneficiaries basically students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti residents at Iworoko Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area of the state benefited from the gesture.

Under the ‘shop for free’ initiative which was held on Sunday, the beneficiaries, particularly students walked into the makeshift stores and picked their needs for free in a transaction-like atmosphere.

Items which the beneficiaries went to their homes or hostels with included daily needs, vegetable oil, noodles, spaghetti, beverages, rice, beans, garri, semovita, cooking ingredients and tomato.

RCCG Zonal Pastor, Enoch Olatunji, said, “This initiative, which is aimed at reaching out to at least a thousand persons, was spurred by the intense economic hardship in Nigeria”.

Olatunji said that the beneficiaries of the gesture comprise church members and non-members, young and old people.

The cleric said, “The gesture is one of the ways the church is giving back to the community. We want to contribute to efforts to reduce hunger in the land. Hunger is a propelling factor to insecurity, people tend to go the extra mile to satisfy hunger, and we don’t want people to be hungry.

“We call on the government to speed up measures to tackle the heightened economic downturn in the country,” Olatunji said.

Beneficiaries thanked RCCG for the gesture which they said was a great assistance to them in the face of the current harsh economic realities
