The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place this Monday evening at the Théâtre du Châtelet. If the precious Grail will be given at the end of the evening, there are many other distinctions planned on the program in this annual historic gala organized in Paris. Among these additional trophies, the 2024 Gerd Müller Trophy rewards the top scorer of the past season, for club and national team. Last year, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland received this precious trophy after a season marked by a total of 56 goals with Manchester City and Norway. Both players finished the season with 52 goals, each having scored 44 goals for club and a further eight for the national team. Kane had edged out his French counterpart to win the 2023/24 European Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer. When both players are tied on goals at the end of major national championships, the most common method of deciding between the two teams is the number of assists. But not this year because if Mbappé has 19 assists compared to 13 for Kane, the 2024 Gerd Müller Trophy was finally awarded to both men.
