Harry Kane has spoken candidly about his lack of trophies as Bayern Munich play catch-up in the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen.

There is a real fear that Bayern could miss out on the Bundesliga this season for the first time since 2012 as they trail surprise package Bayer Leverkusen by two points.

That would be some rotten luck for Kane, who made the move from Tottenham Hotspur last summer to the Allianz Arena partly because of his lust for trophies.

Having never lifted a team trophy, the Bundesliga looked a surety at Bayern Munich, where he is already adored by fans.

But with Bayern set to meet Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen on Saturday, Kane has spoken about his trophy drought and how he looks to change that.

The England international said: "I've made it clear that I want to be winning team trophies and that's one of the things that's missing from my career so far.

"But as always I'm not going to panic, either way I'm going to keep my head down, keep doing my best for the team and hopefully that starts with a good win on Saturday."

Kane has been in exceptional form this season for Bayern Munich, where he has scored 28 goals in 27 matches in all competitions, including eight assists.

For a club that had been desperate to find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona in 2022, the 30-year-old is now closing in on the Munich legend's record.

If Kane can score 18 or more in his next 14 Bundesliga appearances, it will see him break Lewandowski's record of 41 goals in a single season.

But it would mean nothing if Bayern do not get their hands on the title and Liverpool legend Alonso could be the man to halt their run of 11 consecutive wins.

Bayer Leverkusen are currently two points clear at the top and are unbeaten, making Saturday's showdown pivotal in the Bundesliga title race.

Alonso has got the best out of several young stars including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Boniface while former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has marshalled the team on the pitch.

If they can keep up their form, Kane's hunt for a trophy might just continue in the most unlikely of scenarios.
