With every point dropped by Bayern Munich, English football fans all start to think the same thing.

It couldn't happen again, could it?

Harry Kane and Bayern are staring at the possibility of a trophyless campaign

Harry Kane joined the Bundesliga champions last summer off the back of 11 successive league titles.

The £82million transfer saw two worlds collide: Kane, who is yet to see a major trophy, despite being one of the best players in the world, and Bayern, who claim the top honours every year, even when they're below their best.

An unstoppable force met an immovable object and the tug-of-war remains intriguing beyond the halfway point of the 2023/24 campaign.

Disclaimer: it would certainly not be Kane's fault if Bayern failed to win the league.

His arrival after 19 years at Tottenham has been a roaring success for the German giants on a personal level.

He could hardly do more, scoring 26 goals in 24 appearances, and breaking numerous records along the way.

But the 30-year-old could well be cursed - because Bayern are seven points adrift of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Xavi Alonso's men have been Europe's surprise package this season, emerging from nowhere to go on an extraordinary unbeaten run through 18 games.

Having already been dumped out of the DFB-Pokal, Germany's version of the FA Cup, Kane is reliant on the Bundesliga and the Champions League to end his career-long trophy drought.

However, for those who do not obsess over the England captain's trophy cabinet, an interesting sub-plot has emerged.

Thomas Tuchel describes what it's like to coach 'shark' Harry Kane as waxes lyrical over the Bayern Munich star

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has the opposite CV to Kane, having won a league title in every season of his senior career.

The France star won Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 and 2014, then Serie A with Juventus in 2015, followed by eight successive Bundesliga triumphs with Bayern.

At 27, Coman already has a grand total of 24 trophies in his locker, including the Champions League.

It means that by June 1, the night of the Champions League final, either Kane or Coman will have lost their career-long records.

Will it be Kane to finally win a trophy? Or Coman failing to bag one for the first season ever?

Something has got to give - and both will be hoping it is the former.
