England captain Harry Kane reportedly has a release clause in his Bayern Munich contract amid rumours of a shock return to the Premier League.

Kane, widely considered as one of the best strikers in world football, ended a 19-year stint with Tottenham in 2023 to join Bayern for an initial £82m, with add-ons taking it to around £100m.

The 31-year-old, who became Spurs’ all-time record scorer, was strongly linked to Manchester United but ended up moving to German top-flight.

Kane has continued his world-class form at Bayern, conjuring up 70 goals and 22 assists across just 72 appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

But it has now emerged via German outlet Bild that Kane has a release clause in his current Bayern contract.

It is thought that Kane could’ve left Bayern for £67m in January and the release clause will reduce to £54m next winter.

Premier League clubs are ‘aware’ of Kane’s release clause and it could be crucial to a potential return to England, The Telegraph have reported.

It should be noted, though, that Kane is currently extremely happy in Germany and has no desire to move back to the Premier League at this moment in time.

Speaking last month, ex-United striker Teddy Sheringham expressed his disappointment that the Red Devils failed to bring Kane to Old Trafford.

‘Over the last two years, Harry Kane and Declan Rice both became available,’ Sheringham said.

‘Top players, lead by example, proven players week-in-week-out, great players and they were nowhere near signing them.

‘They let Harry go to Bayern Munich, they weren’t in the frame to get Arsenal away from signing Declan Rice.

‘When those top players became available in Sir Alex Ferguson’s years, he went out and bought them… Gary Pallister, Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Wayne Rooney, he went out and got these top players.

‘He said, “You’re coming to play for me now, you ain’t going anywhere else in the country, you’re coming to play for Manchester United because you’re one of the best”, but it’s not happening now.

‘They’ve got to get back on that road of signing top players who lead by example.’
