Erik ten Hag delivered a blow to Manchester United fans hoping Harry Maguire would be available for the FA Cup final at Thursday’s press conference.
The manager, who is under pressure to keep his job, has ruled Maguire out of the FA Cup final against rivals Man City on Saturday.
Maguire gave an interview to talkSPORT earlier this week stressing that he was ‘touch and go’ to make the matchday squad.
Now it looks even more unlikely that we’ll see Maguire play again this season.
“Harry Maguire is unavailable,” Ten Hag told reporters, before being quizzed further on the England centre-back.
“Maguire? It (the injury) didn’t heal as expected.”
However, there was better news for the rest of the squad ahead of our trip to Wembley. Everyone else is pretty much good to go and hopefully ready to put a big shift in for the final game of the 2023/24 campaign.
It’s the least the fans deserve after a disappointing season for United.
Ten Hag said: “Tomorrow final training and we make final decisions but the way I see it now it looks good [Mount, Lindelof and Martial now available].”
United go into the final as underdogs, but we must overcome that and make it a day to remember. The players know they have underperformed throughout the season and fans are right to question whether some of them could have pushed themselves further to achieve better results for the team.
