Manchester United, somewhat undeservedly, have booked their place in the final of the FA Cup for a second straight season.
Awaiting them are the current holders of the trophy, Manchester City, in what forms an exact repeat of last season’s final, which saw Pep Guardiola’s men pick up a 2-1 victory before sealing the treble just a week later.
The Reds led 3-0 in the 71st minute of the tie this afternoon, but by the full-time whistle of regular time, Coventry City had performed an emphatic comeback to make it 3-3 and force an extra half-hour of play.
When extra time couldn’t separate the two sides, it came down to penalties, with United netting four to their opponents’ two and, therefore, progressing to the next stage.
The celebrations from the squad following the game’s culmination were rightfully subdued, as they’d been outplayed by the Championship outfit in the second half and were yet again unable to see out a lead.
Ten Hag’s future hangs in the balance
Samuel Luckhurst took to X (Twitter) to have his say after Coventry’s disallowed winner, writing: “Ten Hag cannot survive this. He has to go ASAP.”
A sentiment that will undoubtedly be shared amongst many of the Old Trafford faithful after that showing. Woeful.
