Hayaat Senior High School (SHS) at Oyibi-Sasaabi of the Kpone Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region was on Sunday inaugurated.
Built by the Qatar Charity, a non- governmental organisation, to improve access to education in under-served communities Hayaat SHS, with its state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated staff, aims to provide a conducive learning environment that nurtures academic excellence and holistic development.
The inauguration of the school, first of its kind in the community, serves as a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering a generation of empowered and skilled individuals poised to make meaningful contributions to society.
The school has 12-classroom, administrative offices, and teachers common room, dormitory for the students, and a Mosque for worship by Muslim students.
The Director of the School, Dr Nasiba Tahir, said there was plan to build modern laboratory to improve science education and accommodation faculties in order to enhance intake and a school playground.
She expressed the hope that the school would provide a serene environment, especially for Muslims to be educated at the same practice without any hindrance as they encountered in other schools.
Dr Tahir expressed the hope that the school would serve as basis for turning out “the next generation of professionals to lead to the transformation of society.”
“We are committed to providing quality education that inspires younger generation to achieve excellence,” she added
Noting the concern about corruption in the country, Dr Tahir said, “the school is committed to training future professional to be guided by good work ethics and upright consciousness and imbibing in them Islamic values of honesty and integrity.”
“As Hayaat Senior High School embarks on its journey to empower students and shape futures, the inauguration ceremony stands as a beacon of hope and progress for the Oyibi-Sasaabi community. With the unwavering support of stakeholders and partners, the school is poised to make a lasting impact on the educational landscape of Ghana,” Dr Tahir added.
Dr Tahir also commended Qatar Charity for building the school to serve a basis for a future university.
The Ghana Country Director of Qatar Charity, Hassan Owda, said the foundation was committed to education which was the basis for national development.
He expressed the hope that the school would provide the foundation “for a new crop of professionals with good attitudes, manners and ethical values as engineers, scientists, lawyers, doctors to lead in national development.”
Nana Donkor Manianor II, the Mankrado of Obosomasi, along with other tribal chiefs, who lent their support to the establishment of the School, emphasised the significance of community involvement in education.
He appealed to the authorities to attached Obosomasi to the school as an honour to the traditional authorities who gave out the land for the school project.
Nana expressed concern about “lack of maintenance culture in the country” and urged the school authorities to keep and maintain the facility for generations.
In attendance were representative of the Qatar Ambassador to Ghana, representative from the municipal education directorate, and a cross section of the Muslim community.
Sheikh Usha Tahir Kuta, a retired diplomat,who chaired the function commended the chiefs of Obosomasi for giving the land for the construction of the school and the Qatar Charity for funding the project.
