Seth Meyers turned the wild story of the birth of his second child into Lobby Baby, which aired on Netflix in 2019.
Given that his third child was born “as planned”, the Late Night host will have had to mine some new comedy territory for his next special, which is set to air on HBO this fall.
It is Meyers’ second stand up special and was filmed at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, directed by Neal Brennan.
Written by Meyers, who exec produced with his Late Night showrunner Mike Shoemaker, it was produced by Irwin Entertainment.
It comes as Meyers is fresh off another Emmy nomination; Late Night is competing in the Outstanding Talk Series category against The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Daily Show.
Lobby Baby was Emmy nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.
Meyers has been doing a lot of stand up over the last few years; he has been performing regularly with John Oliver at the Beacon Theater in New York and did a number of shows during last year’s writers strike.
Meyers said, “Critics say it’s the special my kids will be talking about in therapy twenty years from now.”
Nina Rosenstein, EVP, HBO Programming, Late Night and Specials, added: “As longtime fans, we’re so happy to partner with Seth on his first HBO special. He’s such a charismatic storyteller and we’ve always loved the way he reaches people on such a personal level. This special is endlessly relatable and so much fun to watch.”
