Manchester United new signing Joshua Zirkzee got his Premier League off to a flying start by scoring a winner against Fulham on his debut for the club.
Zirkzee became the third Dutch player in United’s history to score on his Premier League debut, with a strike that secured three points for Erik ten Hag’s side.
The Netherlands forward sent the ball out wide to Alejandro Garnacho before getting himself into a better position inside the box. His volley in the 87th minute hit the back of the net to give United a deserved win.
Former United youth player Danny Webber told MUTV that he was impressed by the versatility Zirkzee showed on the pitch against Fulham.
“It’s rare that you see somebody in that stature, 6 foot 2, 6’3, have such soft feet, as I call it, when you are nice with the ball and not just relying on your physicality,” Webber told MUTV, as quoted by UnitedInFocus.
“You saw the deft touch on his finish, he’s got quality, good quality.”
Excited to see more from Zirkzee
Everyone will be excited to see what else Zirkzee has in his locker.
Webber is excited to see how the Dutch star develops at United and how he will be integrated into the team over the season.
He added: “It will be interesting to see where he plays, you don’t see him as a out and out number nine week in and week out where he’s running in behind.
“You almost see him playing a hybrid role between a nine and a 10 where he is dropping deep and making runs, finding spaces, pretty much the way he got his goal.
“The more of a rhythm he gets into, the fitter he gets, the more comfortable he feels in a United shirt. and I hope to see a lot from him.”
The goal on Friday night should give Zirkzee a boost in confidence. He’s off the mark and some of the pressure has lifted, although that comes with raised expectations at the biggest club in the world.
