Rio Ferdinand is impressed with what he’s seeing of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, as the Manchester United star sees out the final two months of his loan spell.
Last night, Sancho featured for 86 minutes as Dortmund emphatically booked their spot in the Champions League semi-final with a 4-2 (5-4 aggregate) win over Atletico Madrid at the Signal Iduna Park.
They trailed by just one goal heading into the second leg, but as always, the Yellow Wall proved to be the 12th man as they roared their side on from the first blow of the referee’s whistle.
As such, Edin Terzic’s side will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semis, and Sancho will be aiming to be involved from the offset again. He wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet across both quarter-final ties, yet he was praised by pundits for his performances.
“We asked for Sancho to put in a performance, a lot to prove, and he’s showing it,” Ferdinand said of the attacker at full-time on TNT Sports.
“He’s left Manchester United under a cloud [and] he’s now in a Champions League semi-final against PSG. Who could have written that script? He wouldn’t have seen that coming.”
Sancho faces an uncertain future
The 24-year-old will return to Old Trafford in the summer regardless of how Dortmund’s campaign plays out, as no buy option was included in his terms. Reports suggest that he would be open to trying to revitalise his United career but only on the condition that Erik ten Hag is no longer in the dugout.
