Hyderabad: Extreme rainfall is expected to impact several parts of Telangana, with Hyderabad likely to experience heavy downpours overnight.

Weather forecasters are predicting a 50% chance of substantial rainfall, ranging from 20-30 cm, in the districts of Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Suryapet, and Khammam. This forecasted rainfall could reduce the likelihood of catastrophic flooding in the city.

However, meteorologists are also concerned about a similar 50% chance of severe flooding, potentially replicating the conditions seen during the 2020 floods. There is a risk of extreme rainfall in Medak, Sangareddy, Khammam, Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, and Ranga Reddy districts.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has issued a red alert for several regions in Telangana. Severe weather conditions are anticipated over the next 12 hours, with continuous heavy rains expected in Suryapet, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Mahabubabad, Khammam, Mulugu, Kamareddy, and Warangal.

The IMD has also warned of potential hazards, including traffic congestion, slippery roads, and the risk of falling trees and power lines. Authorities are advising residents to exercise caution and limit travel as much as possible. The expected downpour may cause waterlogging and significant disruptions across Hyderabad, affecting daily life and transportation.

Residents are encouraged to take all necessary precautions to stay safe during these extreme weather conditions.
