THE Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Gariballa Khidir Ali, has appealed to the government and other international bodies to help find a lasting solution to the ongoing war in Sudan.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday to provide an update on the ongoing war in Sudan, Mr Ali said the war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Force (SAF) which began in April last year, had displaced and claimed the lives of many people.
He noted that Ghana, described by many as a beacon of democracy and a member of the African Union (AU), could play a role in ensuring peace and security in Sudan by engaging the RSF and the SAF in dialogues and negotiations.
Mr Ali further highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Sudan and Ghana, and was hopeful that such bilateral relationship could play a role in bringing an end to the ongoing war in Sudan.
Moreover, he emphasised that the government of Sudan was committed to bringing an end to the ongoing war as it had filed complaints about the operations of the RSF to international organisations such as the AU and the United Nations (UN).
“Since last month, Sudan has been filling out official complaints to the UN Security Council, and these complaints were attached with satellite and many information. There are also some international media that has reported on happenings in Sudan such as the BBC and the CNN. As a country, it is our hope that these complaint are looked at in order for peace and security to be restored”, Mr Ali stressed.
The Ambassador also expressed his profound gratitude to the humanitarian aid provided by some international organisations and agencies such as World Health Organisation (WHO), World Food Programme (WFP), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and International Relief.
“There has been a number of humanitarian aids such as the transportation 355 tones of emergency medicines and medical solutions to Gedaref State by the WHO, and I will like to thank international organisations and the government of Sudan for such assistance in this difficult moment”, Mr Ali indicated.
