Former Elephant, Yannick Sagbo tackled the president of the Ivorian Federation, who tried to get Hervé Renard on loan after the departure of Jean-Louis Gasset.
The Elephants did it! Getting off to a very bad start in “its” African Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire had a series of miracles and ended up being crowned on Sunday evening, after overthrowing Nigeria in the final (2-1), in a stadium Abidjan in turmoil. Before that, Serge Aurier and his teammates had claimed the scalp of the defending champion, Senegal, on penalties (1-1), Mali (2-1) and DR Congo (1-0).
However, disaster was very close for the Elephants. After their inaugural success over Guinea-Bissau (2-0), Côte d’Ivoire fell twice during the group stage, against Nigeria (1-0) then especially against Equatorial Guinea (4- 0). A final defeat which caused the departure of Jean-Louis Gasset, replaced by one of his deputies, Emerse Faé.

The former Nantes and Nice player was not, however, the priority of the president of the Ivorian Federation, Idriss Diallo, who tried to get the coach of the French women’s team, Hervé Renard, on loan, in vain. An attempt which did not please Yannick Sagbo. It is the least we can say…
“Idriss Diallo’s attempt to get Hervé Renard back on loan? I found it shameful and disrespectful, castigated the former Ivorian international in the columns of Le Parisien. Emerse (Faé) was not in the best position at the start of his interim period. But he was not destabilized. This is where he was strong.
