On the eve of the Women’s Nations League final between the French team and Spain, Wednesday in Seville (7 p.m.), Hervé Renard confirmed Pauline Peyraud-Magnin as the starting goalkeeper for Les Bleues. Constance Picaud was promoted to number 1 last September.

Hervé Renard was questioned about his goalkeeping hierarchy during the French women’s team press conference on the eve of the Women’s Nations League final against Spain on Wednesday in Seville (kick-off at 7 p.m., live on W9). Unsurprisingly, the Blue coach affirmed that Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, lined up in the semi-final against Germany (2-1) last Friday, will start against the 2023 world champions.

This question from a Spanish journalist is however relevant, because the French coach had decided to promote Constance Picaud as number 1 for the start of the Nations League last September and the PSG goalkeeper played the first four matches. Except that she was put in competition with Katarzyna Kiedrzynek at PSG and Renard restored his confidence in Peyraud-Magnin during the 5th match of the LDN, on December 1.

“Pauline Peyraud-Magnin excelled”

“I think it’s important to establish a certain competition, the replacement players have the impression that there is never enough, but it is part of an axis of progression. These last matches, Pauline Peyraud-Magnin has excelled, she has achieved excellent performances, so she will be the one to start tomorrow”confirmed the double winner of the African Cup of Nations, who can offer a very first trophy to the women’s selection.

Peyraud-Magnin, 31, who started at the World Cup in Australia last summer, is the most reliable goalkeeper in the group, while Picaud, 25, has plenty of time to (re)become number 1. reminder, Hervé Renard had launched Solène Durand, the 3rd goalkeeper, before the penalties for the Bleues against the Australians, in the round of 16 of the World Cup. To see if the coach will make such a choice against the Spanish in the event of a draw after 120 minutes.
