Heung-min Son has been left distraught as South Korea were denied the chance of reaching the Asian Cup final.

The Tottenham star was captaining his country in the semi-final clash with Jordan in the knowledge that victory would have seen them face the winners of Iran vs Qatar in the showpiece event.

However, it wasn't to be with South Korea being beaten 2-0 and sent packing.

Despite dominating possession, Son and his teammates struggled to create many substantial openings and failed to get a shot on target during the 90 minutes.

As a result, it is Jordan who progress to the final with Son set to be on the next flight back to London.

The 31-year-old struggled to hide his disappointment on the field at full-time, indicating that he knew that this was a big opportunity missed for his country.

While news of South Korea's elimination with be devastating for Son and their supporters, it will be good news for Tottenham fans.

Spurs have been without their captain for the last month having not featured since the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve.

Ange Postecoglou's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Brighton in a clash that is exclusively live on talkSPORT 2.

While it remains to be seen if Son will be involved, Tottenham fans will be quietly happy to see their star man return ahead of a crucial few weeks in the context of the season.
