The father and brother of South Korean Tottenham striker Heung-min Son have been found guilty of child abuse.
Heung-min Son’s father, the South Korean striker for Tottenham (Premier League), may have a very extreme notion of disciplining the residents of the football academy he runs. Woong-jung Son, 62, was convicted, along with his other son, Heung-yun Son, of child abuse by a local court.
The decision, a fine of 3 million won (a little more than 2,000 euros), was handed down on Friday by the Chuncheon district court, the city where the academy for football apprentices is based. The parents of one reported that their son was hit by one of the two coaches with a corner flag and was also subjected to verbal abuse.
Woong-jung Son apologized
During the hearing, former international hopefuls Woong-jung Son apologized while denying any wrongdoing. The Chuncheon academy, opening in 2021, is largely funded by the Spurs striker. The center would have cost around 15 million euros.
