Hikaru Shida has taken inspiration from the Yakuza series for her latest match.
The Japanese video game series has always been inspired by and featured various professional wrestlers. Stars like Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito and Kenny Omega have all featured in the game series. Wrestling moves have also featuring in the in-game combat.
Now, it is time for wrestlers to return the favor. Hikaru Shida is a known video game fanatic. She has been inspired by video games for a number of moves and attires in the ring.
She continued that by taking a move directly from Yakuza 3. On the July 24th edition of AEW Dynamite, Hikaru Shida faced Britt Baker in the dentist’s first match in 2024. While the Japanese star took the loss in this instance, one move she used has gained her some levels of fame online.
During the match, Hikaru Shida hit an interesting combination. She transitioned behind Baker, hitting her with a clean German Suplex. She then transitioned this into an arm bar. Yakuza 3 fans will notice this is a move in the game called the Hell’s Gauntlet.
The move comes from the 2009 game, which is performed by the character Kiryu. Fawful Eric posted a video on Twitter, which showed the character watching Hikaru Shida performing the move, before trying it himself.
Britt Baker won the match, however Hikaru Shida gained the most from fans online fro her performance in the match.
