EXCLUSIVE: Holly Stanton has joined Carlos López Estrada‘s production company, Antigravity Academy, as Head of Development for Narrative and Documentary.
Previously, Stanton was an agent in CAA’s Media Finance group where she packaged and sold documentary features and worked with non-fiction filmmakers and production companies. Her hiring comes as Antigravity looks to expand its presence in documentaries for both film and television.
Already, Stanton has spent several months building a documentary division for the company. Among the projects coming together as part of her slate at Antigravity, across narrative and documentary, is a documentary based on The New York Times and Serial Productions’ podcast The Good Whale, to be directed by López Estrada, as well as Malls of America (directed by Brian Becker), and The Instrument (directed by Zac Manuel).
“Antigravity’s mission to support original and emerging voices continues to take us into new universes,” López Estrada told Deadline, “and we could not be more lucky to start this new chapter with Holly’s creative leadership.”
Prior to CAA, Stanton managed content strategy at Participant Media across their narrative and documentary divisions. She also spent several years working in contemporary art as a gallery director and curator in New York and Los Angeles.
“It’s a dream to join Carlos and the remarkable Antigravity team, and help expand their creative horizons at this pivotal moment in the company’s growth” she said. “I admire Carlos’s collaborative spirit, commitment to supporting visionary filmmakers and emerging artists, and passion for centering community in everything Antigravity touches. I’m especially excited to create new pathways for early career filmmakers and continue building our slate of inventive non-fiction projects.”
Antigravity’s debut feature, Dìdi (弟弟), written and directed by Sean Wang, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, winning the Audience Award and opening globally last summer via Focus Features. In television, the company is developing the comedy series Smugglers with FX Networks, in collaboration with This American Life and showrunner Joanna Calo (The Bear). They premiered the multimedia film For Mexico, For All Time at the Sphere in Las Vegas as the centerpiece of sporting event Noche UFC this past September.
Best known for co-directing Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animates Feature, Estrada’s other credits include Lionsgate’s Blindspotting, as well as series like Legion and F.A.M.
