Billy Ray called him “a prince.” Kiefer Sutherland said his dad was “never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly.” Joe Russo simply wrote, “RIP to the Goat.”

Hollywood is already sounding off on the passing of Donald Sutherland, the 2017 recipient of the honorary Oscar recipient who died Thursday at 88.

Here are some of the reactions so far (keep refreshing for updates):

It was such an honor to be presented with the Crystal Nymph, a lifetime achievement award for acting by @festivaltvmonte_carlo! I now share this award with incredible previous winners such as Donald Sutherland, @helenmirren, and @michaelkirkdouglas. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/m2sd7lJcj9

RIP the great Donald Sutherland, a favourite actor and always fascinating screen presence. "Hey, what if we put Donald Sutherland in our World War 2 movie…"

"Sounds great!"

"But he's playing kind of a beatnik-hippie tank commander."

A prince.

A brilliant actor.

Wildly underrated.

I was beyond proud to be on the Academy Board of Governors when we voted him his much-deserved Governor's Award.

NOT an Ordinary Person at all…

May the odds be ever in his favor… https://t.co/M1CKbNFKUc

Since the mid-1960s and through the decades, Donald Sutherland brought his singular onscreen presence to roles large and small, always putting a unique spin on his characters. Rest well and thank you for an incredible and wide-ranging body of work, good sir. pic.twitter.com/HNEXwLLPv6
