Manchester United’s Academy graduate Anthony Elanga is in talks over a potential switch to Newcastle United.

This time last year, the winger was closing in on a move to Nottingham Forest after being used sparingly by Erik ten Hag in his maiden season at Old Trafford.

Elanga eventually signed for the East Midlands outfit on a five-year deal for a reported £15 million – a fee which took United fans by surprise, given his potential and the promising cameos he’d already displayed after transitioning into the senior squad.

Nevertheless, it was evident that he wouldn’t be a frequent starter under Ten Hag; the remarkable emergence of Alejandro Garnacho saw him keep his £86m counterpart Antony on the bench for the majority of the term. Facundo Pellistri was sent out on loan in January, while Amad Diallo struggled for minutes.

The Sweden international made 36 Premier League appearances for Forest in 2023/2024 – 20 more than he was granted the season prior. 25 of those outings came from the offset, as Elanga oversaw his most prolific term to date by notching five goals and nine assists.

Now, he could be on the move again after just one year at the City Ground. Luke Edwards of The Telegraph revealed today that Newcastle are in talks with Forest regarding a deal that would see Elanga join Eddie Howe’s Magpies and Elliot Anderson transfer the other way.

It’s a prospective agreement that would look to give both clubs more room for manoeuvre around the league’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.
