Tottenham have condemned some supporters for chanting homophobic slogans during their 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Spurs beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday in a remarkable result. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke gave Tottenham a crushing result, but fans appeared to direct homophobic chants towards Solanke and United substitute Mason Mount, a former Chelsea player.
Spurs have now condemned the chants, insisting they are “ abominable“, and urged supporters to stop. The homophobic chants are a breach of FA rules, but it is unclear whether Spurs will be punished.
Tottenham intends to act
London leaders said in a statement:
“The club is aware of the abhorrent homophobic chants from some sections of our away supporters at Old Trafford today. This is simply unacceptable, extremely offensive and is no way to show support for the team.
“The club will work closely with the police and stewards to identify anyone inciting or participating in the chants. We will take the strongest possible action in accordance with our sanctions and ban policy. » Spurs will then play Thursday against Ferencvaros in the Europa League. Ange Postecoglou’s side next face Brighton in the Premier League next weekend.
