“Benjamin Pavard is not allowed to break the virilist football codes”. This is the title of the tribune published on Mediapart.fr By Rouge Direct, a collective of whistleblowers against homophobia in football. The publication of Benjamin Pavard on Instagram, a fashion photo to which he carries a white tank top with rabbit ears, did not go unnoticed. On the contrary. His teammates of the French team, including the captain star of the Blues Kylian Mbappé, left a mocking comment after seeing the photo of the 2018 world champion defender. Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé opted for the crying smiley, his inter -Marcus Thuram teammate wrote: “I have the words anymore”. A chambering on the networks which has become commonplace between the stars of the round ball.

The concern is that the publication of Pavard, which displays 136,000 likes and 3,277 comments, gave multiple mocking reactions but also homophobic remarks on the part of certain Internet users. This is what direct red denounces: “The cybervague of denigration, humiliations and homophobic comments against Benjamin Pavard is launched, boosted by footballers manifestly never made aware of discrimination related to sexual orientation and gender identity that plague football, terrains, stands, and therefore also the spirits of players and personalities among the most influential people, especially for young people”.

New problem with the Blues?

Worried about “Well-being and daily safety of LGBT people”the collective challenged the FFF and had a return on January 21. Pending concrete acts with the Blues of Didier Deschamps (who find themselves in two weeks for the quarter -final of the League of Nations against Croatia). “We believe that the FFF must take this opportunity to salute this choice of inclusive expression of one of its internationals, and firmly recall its dear colleagues to their exemplarity obligation. No awareness of the challenges of homophobia and gender identity seems to have been put in place in their direction: in the light of their stupid and inconsistent reactions, it is in our opinion a necessity and an emergency for the FFF “is it written on Mediapart.fr.

Rouge Direct also thinks of making new proof of the complicity of the sports press concerning the ambient homophobia present in football: “We even read in conclusion of this article (from Ouest France, editor's note) A advice given to Benjamin Pavard to “ think twice From now on before publishing a photo that does not respect the ultra virilist and toxic codes of football, the very people who nourish homophobia by ricochet in the whole of society. In this climate of homophobia at this unmarked point, including in sports editors, how many times should a gay footballer think about it before coming out? »»
