For the most part, Hot Toys’ dips into the Star Wars universe for its highly-detailed action figures stick to what’s current in the world of the galaxy far, far away. The latest shows and movies, or dips back to classic heroes and villains, the toymaker plants its feet firmly in the current continuity of Star Wars. But in a rare moment that it doesn’t, Hot Toys definitely goes hard.
Hot Toys just revealed its latest 1:12 scale Star Wars figures will make for the company’s rare pulls from the franchise’s “Legends” continental: and it’s in the form of arguably some of the most infamous non-canonical Star Wars characters standing, Knights of the Old Republic’s Darth Revan and The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller.
This is far from the first time that Revan has been made into merchandise, in spite of the fact their story—as told in the events of Bioware’s iconic CRPG Knights of the Old Republic, its Obsidian-made sequel The Sith Lords, and the still-ongoing Old Republic MMO—is no longer a part of Star Wars canon. But it’s almost certainly one of the snazziest Revan collectibles out there. As well as an articulated fabric hood and frayed cloak, the Hot Toys Revan comes with two lightsabers—one with a Sith-red blade, and another with a purple one, both of which can light up and also include “swooshing” FX parts. Some international markets will also receive a special coin with the figure, to commemorate the occasion of getting a Knights of the Old Republic reference in 2024, even if it’s not actually anywhere remotely close to getting its characters, worlds, or story weaved into Star Wars canon.
Likewise, this is isn’t the first Force Unleashed merchandise we’ve seen recently—but it is a bit of a twist. Instead of giving us the more usual Galen Marek persona of the action video game duology’s protagonist, Hot Toys figure focuses on a darker what-could’ve been. The “Lord Starkiller” version of the character is inspired by The Force Unleashed’s out-of-continuity DLC, where Marek fully submitted to the Dark Side and became a mechanized cyborg monster slicing his way through the original Star Wars movies and its heroes. Like the Revan figure, he is spartanly accessorized, including two lightsaber hilts on top of his usual weapon—which will be the only one with light-up functionality. He will also come with a special coin in international markets, too.
